OPEN CALL

To emphasize the significance and the historical fascination of the Ballets Russes, we invite you to reveal the concealed histories together with us. We will be selecting some of your ideas to be displayed within our exhibition.

Use these questions as a starting point to reflect on the ballet troupe:

• How do you understand the title ‘concealed histories’? What’s the value of investigating the historical collections for you?
• Who has the responsibility in conserving and utilizing the costumes which contain physical and conceptual possibilities of the company’s history?
• How much has sociocultural prejudice influenced the art, and how has this influenced the mass culture?
• To what extent do you think the Ballets Russes have changed/expanded the taste of the European audiences towards traditional ballet?
• In your opinion, which character or peculiarity of Sergei Diaghilev helped him create this huge and unparalleled success?
• Can you find some elements in your daily life that are related to the Ballets Russes? Are there anything that looks similar or reminds you of the exhibited Ballets Russes costume designs?

Submit your ideas in the comment form on this page.

Alternatively, you can send us your materials to our email at balletrusses2020@gmail.com, or simply share your post on Instagram with the hashtag #BalletsRussesandMe.
